Impurity in the asymmetric exclusion process with long-range hopping
Presence of a single defect site with reduced hopping rate in the asymmetric exclusion process is known to induce strong effects on density profiles leading to creation of queues. We study similar problem by introducing single impurity site inaccessible to particles in the generalization of the asymmetric exclusion process in which particles may jump any distance l with the probability that decays as l^-(1+\sigma). In spite of long range of hopping, a macroscopic queue is observed even for \sigma less than 2, which is the short-range limit of the homogeneous case. Unlike the short-range case but similar to the recently studied homogeneous case, we show that the mean-field approximation agrees well with the results of numerical simulations.
