Equilibriumlike extension of the invaded cluster algorithm for the Potts model
Invaded cluster (IC) [1] algorithm is designed to simulate a system at its critical point without prior knowledge of the critical temperature. However, the procedure of self-adjusting to the critical temperature does not generate an equilibrium distribution. Consequently it may only be used to analyze a certain number of properties at criticality, with limited accuracy, while the description of fluctuations remains out of its reach. We extend [2] the nonequilibrium IC algorithm to reestablish a correct scaling of fluctuations at criticality, while retaining its self-adjusting to the critical temperature. We show that by introducing a single constraint to the intrinsic quantity of the IC algorithm the temperature becomes well defined and the sampling of the equilibrium ensemble is regained. The procedure is applied to the Potts model in two and three dimensions. [1] J. Machta, Y. S. Choi, A. Lucke, T. Schweizer, L. V. Chayes, Phys. Rev. Lett. {; ; \bf75}; ; , 2792 (1995) ; J. Machta, Y.
