Human epiglottal epithelia development- award plaque ARCA
Special collections of human material are of the great importance for basic biomedical research and clinical applications. This investigation was done using the celoidine Collection of human embryos from the Archive of the Department of Histology and Embryology, School of Medicine University of Zagreb, Croatia. So far unknown development of the human epiglottal epithelium during the prenatal and postnatal period of life was investigated. After birth, epithelium changes from ciliated pseudostratified epithelium to the more robust stratified squamous epithelium which is probably connected to the establishment of the air-flow. Results of such fundamental research are of importance for contemporaneous surgical reconstructions within the field of regenerative medicine.
