Automated Testing of Power Transformers
Each individual transformer shall be tested after manufacturing (routine tests). Some of them will be additionally tested as representative of other transformers to demonstrate that these transformers comply with specified requirements not covered by routine tests (type tests). And only a few transformers will be subject to special tests agreed by the manufacturer and the purchaser. Testing should be fast and accurate. Digital instruments make possible automation of testing. It is possible to integrate digital instruments equipped with communication interface and PC in an automated measuring system by the software application. Automation is advantageous for frequent tests (routine tests) and complex time consuming tests (type tests). Testing means measurement of quantity, and assessment of compliance with specification. To make correct and reliable decision, it should be based on complete measurement result. Complete measurement result is the range of values determined with measured value, measurement uncertainty and measurement unit. Estimation of measurement uncertainty can be complex and time consuming for some digital instruments alone, and especially for results of indirect measurements. Hence, automation of uncertainty estimation is also valuable. The paper introduces automated measuring system and software application ATT (Automated Transformer Testing). ATT have features of automated measurements (during routine tests, type tests and some special tests defined in), storage of data, and test report generation with presentation of complete measurement results. Benefits of automated testing are immediate multi-lingual test reports, increased accuracy and reliability of test results, measurement results with measurement uncertainty, higher productivity of test engineers, and decreased test costs.
