Morphological Analysis of Chainsaws

Poster presents morphological analysis of chainsaws. The morphological analysis was based on geometrical, mass and other values, by means of which the dependencies could be expressed, and validity assessment and choice of adequate machine carried out. Data was taken from websites of current manufacturers of chainsaws (state in 2007). These characteristics were chosen for 195 different types of chainsaws: mass, engine power, cylinder displacement, minimum and maximum length of the guide bar, sound pressure level and sound power level, vibrations on the front and rear hand guard, fuel and chain oil tank volume and purchase price. According to their use, chainsaws were divided into these categories: hobby chainsaws, semi-professional and professional chainsaws. In this analysis it was established that mass is the most solid parameter in defining chainsaws. With mass growth other characteristics of chainsaws were increased, except ergonomic parameters (noise and vibration), and satisfying strength connection between mass and other characteristics of chainsaws was gained. In assessing morphological characteristics it was recorded that no significant extraction in each chainsaw category has been made. Morphological analysis was proven to be a good instrument in assessing the current state of the machine, dependence between chosen parameters and the possible development of chainsaws.
