An Efficient meshless formulation for analysis of shell-like structures
A meshless computational method based on the local Petrov-Galerkin approach for analysis of plate and shell structures is presented. A concept of a three dimensional solid is applied. Discretization is carried out by using both the moving least square approximation and polynomial functions. The exact shell geometry can be described. Both the fully displacement and mixed formulations are proposed. In the mixed approach, besides the displacements, the strain and stress are approximated independently. In the fully displacement approach, the thickness locking is eliminated by using a hierarchical quadratic approximation over the thickness and the shear locking phenomena in case of thin structures are minimized by applying the interpolation functions of a sufficiently high order. In the mixed approach, the thickness locking is eliminated by using the interpolation of the transversal normal stress component, and the shear locking is fully suppressed by means of the strain interpolation. The performances of both proposed formulations are demonstrated by the numerical examples.
