Za uspjeh u profesionalnom sportu potrebna su mnoga odricanja. Profesionalni sportaši osim što se izlažu velikim fizičkim naporima, moraju paziti na pravilnu prehranu. Cilj ovog rada je bio ukazati na pravilnu prehranu i potrebu za uzimanjem dodataka prehrani obzirom na povećane potrebe sportaša. Stručnjaci preporučuju čestu konzumaciju hrane koja se kombinira obzirom na visoki i niski glikemijski indeks namirnica. Također preporučuju proteinske dodatke kao glutamin, L– karnitin, natrij fosfat, sirutka i kreatin. Vitamini i minerali predstavljaju neophodni dio prehrane svih sportaša jer sudjeluju u stvaranju energije i prijenosu kisika u organizmu. Nadoknada tekućine prije, tijekom i nakon treninga je potrebna svakom sportašu koji želi ostvariti vrhunske rezultate. Jedan od velikih problema je doping, koji je unatoč svim mjerama koje se poduzimaju protiv dopinga još uvijek vrlo čest. Od doping sredstava najčešće se koriste različiti narkotici, anabolici, diuretici i peptidni hormoni, a sve u cilju poboljšanja izvedbe.

Characteristics of the most commonly used supplements in sports nutrition
For success in professional sports many renounces are needed. Professional athletes need to put much effort in training, but they also need to have healthy nutritional habits and proper nutrition. The purpose of this paper was to signify the importance of proper nutrition and the requirement of taking supplements given the increased needs of athletes. Experts recommend frequent intake of food with high and low GI. They also recommend protein supplements like glutamine, L-carnitin, sodium phosphate, whey and creatine. Vitamins and minerals represent an essential part of nutrition for all athletes because they are engaged in energy and oxygen transfer in the organism. Fluid compensation before, during and after training is of great importance for every athlete who wants to succeed. One of major problems is doping, which is, instead of many measures taken into fight against doping, still used by a large number of athletes. Different narcotics, anabolic, diuretics and peptide hormones are mostly used and all in order to improve athletic performance.
