THE FLUORESCENCE OF UV PROTECTED WHITE POLYESTER FABRICS
Based on electronically-excited state by energy of ultraviolet radiation the molecules of fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs) show the phenomenon of fluorescence giving to white textiles high whiteness of outstanding brightness. It is important to point out doubled FWA effects on white textiles – whiteness and UV protection. Therefore, in this paper white polyester (PET) fabrics for summer clothing are modified by ultrasound and with ethylene-diamine (EDA), than treated with disperse FWAs in a wide range of concentration. Additionally, these fabrics were compared to PET treated with UV absorber. The fabric UV protection, whiteness and yellowness were measured according to international standards spectrophotometrically. The relative intensity of fluorescence (Φ rel) was calculated from measured fluorescence on adapted spectrophotometer Specol SV (Carl Zeiss).
