Formants of children with cochlear implants
On the basis of multiple researches one can say that by the use of cochlear implants and with adequate speech and auditory rehabilitation the conditions for development of listening are created. The goal of our research was to examine and analyze the values of the basic frequency and the formants in pronunciation of vowels in children with cochlear implants during the verbotonal rehabilitation. Methods of research: 21 children of preschool age with cochlear implants enrolled in the complex auditory and speech rehabilitation in the SUVAG Polyclinic, Zagreb, were included in the research. Children were, according to duration of the rehabilitation after implantation, divided into three groups. Pronunciation of vowels was recorded by microphones with oral and nasal characteristics and analyzed by Multi-Dimensional Voice Program/Kay Elemetrics Corp, USA/. Results to the values of forma: The values of basic frequency and frequencies for the first three formants and their relation with the duration of rehabilitation have been analyzed. Changes are determined by statistical indicators and univariant and multivariant testing of differences. At the end we made the comparison of obtained values with the values of the formants of normal hearing children. The results show that during rehabilitation the values of formant frequencies have been changed and come closer nts of normal hearing children. Conclusion: The research has shown that the values of observed parameters of voice have been changed due to rehabilitation, which means that in the production of voice we notice the positive changes.
