Integrative Bioethics and Medicine (III): Integrative Bioethics and Medical Procedures Involving Jehovah’ s Witnesses
Distinguishing two basic approaches: A) From the Hippocratic Oath to bioethics 1. Demands obedience, unconditional acceptance of therapy, undisputable loyalty to the physician and all his interventions – comes from Hippocratic Oath and is called paternalism B) Era of bioethics 2. Points out respect, emotional support and care, exchange of information, partner relationship, sets up a relationship of trust between physician and patient, gives patient the possibility to become a partner in treatment, allows him to make decisions in all phases of medical procedures and treatment. This relationship comes from informed consent and is called a partner relationship. Jehovah’ s Witnesses believe that the transfusion has been prohibited with biblical command: “ Not eat the meat with the its soul , and its soul is the blood” . This command Witnesses understand as rejecting the transfusion of complete of blood, erythrocyte, leukocyte, trombocyte and plasmas. Witnesses accept medical alternatives to the transfusion. Accept the factor of congealment of blood, interferon, trombocytes factors for the treat wound.
