Veterans' posttraumatic stress disorder and related comorbid psychic disorders
Context: Although the leading one, PTSD is rarely the only psychic disorder in the spectrum of psychic consequences of the psychotraumatisation. Comorbidity of the PTSD patients is more of a rule than the exception. It seems that the complex neurophysiologic and psychological imbalance, occurring as a consequence of psychotraumatisation, paves the way for other psychic disorders. Objective: Determine the prevalence of comorbid psychic disorders with veterans suffering from chronic PTSD in comparison to the psychotraumatised veterans without PTSD. Methods: The test group consisted of 154 veterans who were undergoing treatment for PTSD in the Clinical hospital Mostar, elected by the order of their checking in for an examination. The control group consisted of a 77 war veterans without PTSD, elected trough veterans associations by snow balling method. Conclusion: This research finding confirms that the chronic PTSD increases the risk of development of other psychic disorders as consequence of psichotraumatisation.
