Family and posttraumatic stress disorder
Despite of its very personal and unique character, a traumatic experience when followed with posttraumatic disorder, shape not only the victim of traumatic experience but the whole family in many ways. By helping or just by living together with traumatised member, whitnesing his or her suffering, change in behaviour and capacity for closeness, undergoing their sometimes agressive outbrusts, other family members could develop serious psychological consequences. In the situation of war trauma, all family members could be traumatised and with diminished capacities to provide mutual support or the safe and supportive surrounding for their children. In four presentations we will present results of recent researches on the sexual problems of war veterans with PTSD, quality and satisfaction with marital relations in families with war traumatised members with PTSD and observed emotional and developmental problems of their children following by the description of experiences in supportive psychotherapy with the wifes of war veterans with chronic PTSD.
