Statistical Properties of Vessel Underwater Noise
The vessel has many various sources of sound emission that are mutually statistically independent. These sound sources are the sources of cavitation and the sources of sinusoidal oscillations. The cavitation, due to the vessel propeller, is Gaussian stochastic process with wide-band spectrum. The sinusoidal oscillations, due to operating machinery, mechanisms and propeller, are approximately stable oscillations with line spectra. The sound emission into the sea is especially interesting. The result of this emission is the underwater acoustic signal due to the vessel. In the real circumstances each vessel has its own characteristics of the underwater acoustic field. This field is the source of the vessel underwater acoustic signal and it is the fundamental phenomenon to detect the vessel by means of the passive sonar.
