Book Review: Rural Tourism Development: Localism and Cultural Change, Channel View Publications, Bristol-Buffalo-Toronto, 2009, pp. 276.

"Rural Tourism Development: Localism and Cultural Change" is a book by three Canadian scientists which critically examines the dynamic interconnection of tourism and culture, using the results of theoretical and practical research conducted by the authors themselves. The changes at the level of local, rural communities are connected with structural consideration about globalization that enables comprehensive, theoretically sophisticated study of the potential development of rural tourism. Although the impact of the community in the tourism planning is important, the authors recognized the lack of field research, as well as complete, scientific based theoretical interpretation of the above mentioned issues. With the will to give new arguments and scientific contribution to the study of tourism and the local community, for the authors the local community represented subject of research, and tourism one of the many potential opportunities of rural development and sustainability. Thus, authors did not perceive tourism as the primary subject of rural development for which the community was the only means of realization. The book "Rural Tourism Development: Localism and Cultural Change" with represented research, comprehensive analysis, critical thinking, the conclusions about the role and importance of tourism in the (rural) communities, suggestions and instructions for practical work, is a valuable scientific contribution, which can be inspiring and helpful to domestic experts who are dealing with, or interested in, the treated problems.
