Water vapour resistance of knitted fabrics under different environmental conditions
The comfort of textile materials has been in focus of many investigations since the concern for personal well-being and the improvement of life quality have become more significant. The aim of this paper is to simulate the water vapour transfer through knitted fabrics under different environmental conditions. For the investigation have been knitted fabrics using 100% cotton, 50/50% cotton/modal, 100% viscose and 100% Tencel® yarns of the count 20 tex. The measurement of water vapour resistance has been carried out on sweating guarded hotplate in the standard conditions (as stated in ISO 11092) and in the environmental conditions that have been extracted for three European cities in different geographical zones. The results indicate the influence of environmental conditions (temperature and relative humidity) to the transfer of water vapour that appears due to the above mentioned conditions and the influence of the raw material to the rate of water vapour transfer under each defined pair of environmental conditions.
