TESTING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CORROSION INHIBITOR BY DIFFERENT ELECTROCHEMICAL METHODS
Reinforcement corrosion is the most serious cause of deterioration of reinforced concrete structures. Corrosion inhibitors can be added as an admixture to the concrete during the batching operation or applied as a surface treatment of existing concrete structure. Effectiveness of inhibitor applied on concrete surface using different electrochemical methods for corrosion determination was tested. Macrocell current, half cell potential vs. Cu/CuSO4 and Ag/AgCl electrodes, and galvanostatic current testing method were applied. Experiments were conducted for two different inhibitors, at control specimens without inhibitor treatment, at specimens treated with inhibitor before corrosion initiation, and at specimens treated after corrosion starting. Chloride corrosion was initiated by cyclic addition of NaCl solution and surface drying to allow oxygen access. Obtained results show that all three testing methods can be used for corrosion inhibitors efficiency evaluation.
