Enhancing Evolution of Truss Structures by Using Genetic algorithms

This paper proposes a method of decoding genotype into phenotype when evolving truss structures by using genetic algorithms. Genotype is represented as a collection of binary encoded nodes. A simple algorithm for decoding is proposed taking into consideration the nodal arrangement and specific rules that had to be satisfied to get a truss structure on the phenotypic level. Motivation was drawn from deficiencies of current optimization methods, which focus on either parameters or structure topology only. Results of the proposed coding scheme method by using the struggle genetic algorithm (SGA) are presented.
