Tourists' preferences for rural forms of Istrian tourism offer
Modern tourists base their decision on choosing tourism destination on an offer which corresponds to their need and whishes and offers them memorable adventure. They are interested in learning the local culture, meeting local people, become acquainted with national folklore, gastronomy, visit museums, galleries, natural attractions, churches, festivals and other attractions. All of this is a part of the quality of the tourism offer. Istrian costal area is a well-known tourism destination which is visited by over 250.000 tourists during the high season while Istrian rural area, which offers various cultural-historical, natural and other attractions, is due to the vicinity of the costal area as well as other issue insufficiently valorised in Istrian tourism offer. The main purpose of this paper is to identify tourism motives of modern tourists visiting Istria, determine how rural forms of Istrian tourism affect demand and indicate how to develop rural tourism offer in order to increase visits to rural area and attract certain social class to spend their vacation there. Modern tourists visiting Istrian costal area could achieve higher level of satisfaction by getting to know Istria as a whole destination which includes visiting both areas costal and rural.
