A comparative overview of diagnostic categories present in patients treated at Daily hospital of the Social psychiatry unit

Objective: to displaya comparative overview of diagnostic grouped according to the diagnoses in patients treated in Daily Hospital program (from 2003-2007) at The Social Psychiatry of The Department of Psychiatry at The University Hospital Centre Rijeka. Method: the data was getting form discharge letters (569) of patients included in group therapeutic work at Daily Hospital setting which exclude psychotic patients and alcohol abusers who attended an adjused form of group treatment. Results: during selected period, 55% of the patients were treated for Mood (affective) disorders (F31-34), from which diagnosis Depressive episode (F32) was most common. Neurotic, stress related and somatoform disorders (F40-45) were present in 25% of the patients, while Organic, including symptomatic disorders (F06&07) were there in 11% of the patients treated at Daily Hospital. Schizophrenia, schizoffective and delusional disorders (F20-29) were diagnosed in 6% of the patients and Disorders of adult personality and behaviour (F60-63) in 1, 4%. Less than 1% of he patients were treated for Behavioural syndrome associated with psychological disturbances and psychical factors (F50&54) while one patient was identified having Mild mental retardaion (F70). Conclusion: more than half of the patients treated at Daily Hospital of The Social Psychiatry Unit were there because of Mood disorders, in most of the cases Depressive disorder while the quarter of the patients were categorised as having Neurotic, stress related and somatoform disorder. Every tenth patient treated at Daily Hospital had Organic, including symptomatic, mental disorder.
