Acne vulgaris and depression
Background: According to the recent studies, acne vulgaris have a profound impact on patients psyche and their quality of life. Aim: The purpose of this pilot study was to determine the level of depression in acne patients and to examine the relationship between severity and of acne vulgaris and the severity of depression. Patients and methods: Fifty acne vulgaris patients attending our clinic underwent a clinical assessment using Global Acne Grading Scale and completed Becks Depression Inventory test for the level of depression. A control group consists of fifty healthy adults correlating in age and sex with examined acne vulgaris patients. Results: Level of depression failed to correlate significantly with GAGS, althought some differences between the examined acne vulgaris patients and control group were present. Conclusion: Acne vulgaris have a profound impact on patients cosmetic outlook, which can lead to disturbances in their psyche. It is important to understand this problem, so the medical approach to these patients could be sufficient and could lead to correct treatment.
