The Relationship of Preference, Knowledge and Usage of American and British English
This paper focuses on the relationship between preference, knowledge and usage of American and British English, as the two prevailing varieties of English taken as models in English language learning. A study was carried out with the second year students of English language and literature. The McNemar test for paired samples was used in order to determine whether the students' usage of American English is greater, regardless of which variety they prefer or have a better knowledge of. The purpose of the study was to establish whether there was a statistically significant difference in the distribution according to groups based on preference.
