SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES - „ OPEN DOOR“ SERVICES

Introduction:Specific populations as school children and especially adolescents require school health counseling services with easy access and opportunity to solve variety of problems at one place. Methods:We analyzed school children’ s and youth’ s reasons for visiting school health service for elementary, secondary school and university. Results:Younger children from elementary school visited services for: learning difficulties, psychosomatic problems, chronic illnesses. Older children visited services for: behavior problems, school absence, poor school achievement, and tobacco and alcohol consumption. High school students asked help regarding: reproductive health (girls), adolescent problems (conflict with parents, teachers, peers), poor school achievement, drugs consumption. Students came for solving educational problems: health related study discontinuance, student’ s dorm, exemption certificate for different activities and chronic illness counseling, reproductive health. Medical students’ opinion research confirms the need for counseling services for the similar reasons. All populations visit counseling services as necessary after medical examination. Conclusion:Solving all the problems demand health care organization model for which family doctor is not sufficient today, therefore we consider that we need to organize separate School and university health service with greater competence and accessibility then now.
