EFFECT OF HEALTH PROMOTION ACTIVITY IN SCHOOL MEDICINE SERVICE: “ WHAT UNIVERSITY FEMALE STUDENTS KNOW ABOUT FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM AND MENSTRUAL HYGIENE?”

Introduction The aim was analysis of level of knowledge and attitudes regarding female reproductive system and menstrual hygiene on university female students. Methods Education was provided in form of presentation, demonstration and discussion with participants. Level of knowledge and attitudes were tested on 224 students 1st year in Zagreb by anonymous questionnaire with questions about sexual activity, female reproductive system and menstrual hygiene products. Results After education (3-6 month) 75% female students were tested again. Sexually active were 53% participants. In answers regarding female reproductive system 95% were correct before and after education, regarding menstrual hygiene before 68, 3% to 98, 7 and after 74, 4% to 98, 8% , menstrual calendar had 77, 6% before and 85, 1% after, menstrual hygiene products were bought by student’ s mothers 36, 6% before and 32, 1% after. Virgins could not use tampons, answered 6, 5% students. The worst results were regarding pregnancy. Education was graded with 4-5 (1-5 grade scale) by 77, 2% students. Conclusion Methods used in health promotion increased level of knowledge and had positive influence on attitudes. Results proved that education should be provided continuously.
