GA-based Shape Optimization Using 2D and 3D Piecewise Bezier Parameterization
Optimum design for specified functionality is an inverse problem as the shape is generated as a consequence of the required functionality. Efficient parameterization of shape must result in a compact set of optimization variables and ensure sufficient quality of the global and local representation of geometry of 2D or 3D objects. This paper develops a 2D and 3D parameterization by applying chaining of piecewise Bezier curves and surfaces and hence uses a compact set of control points, whereby C1 inter- segment continuity is imposed by interpolating additional control points. The surface of the target object is adaptively decomposed into 2D or 3D patches with requested continuity by applying a reduced number of control points, while satisfying the requested modeling accuracy.
