The Application of Amino-b-lactams as Building Blocks for New Thiazolidinone and Triazine Structures
Amino-b-lactams are considered to be very important synthons in the design and preparation of new bilogically active compounds. The amino functionality represents a good point of expansion of the b-lactam structure which provides new possibilities in asymmetric synthesis and development of methods for preparation of diverse substances with a broad spectrum of activity. Thiazolidinone and triazine moieties represent building blocks for the new generation of compounds with potential pharmacological and biological activity, e.g. antibacterial, herbicidal, and pesticidal activity. Iminothiazolidinones have a special importance in the group of nonsteroidal anti-inflamatory drugs (NSAID's) and in contrast with the majority of NSAID's, iminothiazolidinones display a mild effect on the gastrointestinal system. Triazine structures belong to a new group of insecticides (neonicotinoids)structurally related to nicotine and act as insect acetylcholine receptor agonists.
