Privatni prostori grada Trogira u kasnom srednjem vijeku

Late-medieval private areas in trogir reflected the culture of living in that period; changes in their appearance, use and function are an indication of social, cultural, demographic, economic, legal and many other kinds of processes in the city. They were the rsult of both long-term develompent and sudden change, and were determined by the city’s confined position on the islet, its inhabitants’ way of life, and external influence. As a medieval commune, Trogir had all the typical elements of late-medieval Dalmatian cities, Its nucleus from that period has been largely preserved, and allows a clear insigh into this aspect. The basic difference between public and private areas was probably their accessibility; public areas were open and accessible to everyone (or almost everyone), while private areas, indoors and outdoors, were inaccessible. The boundary between public and private was not constant and unchangeable; it depended on relations in the urban community. The question is how the areas were used and experienced by people themselves, and how their use and function was regulated by the communal authorities. Changes that took place in the physical structure of the city often reflected those diverse relations.
