Sažetak
Pumping site Trstenik is situated in north-western part of Croatia. This area pertains to boundary region of the Sava river catchment. First exploration, with aim to locate perspective location for groundwater pumping site, dates back to late 1950s. It included geological, geophysical as well as hydrogeological research. On the basis of favourable results of these exploration, location of the pumping site Trstenik was singled out as perspective one for the water-supply system of Križevci town. Since 1962 groundwater has been pumped from aquifer and the groundwater quality has been quite good so far. On average about 20 l/s is being exploited on Trstenik pumping site which is, together with amount of groundwater extracted on the pumping site Vratno located in different geological environment, rather satisfactory for the current needs for potable water of local inhabitants. Since new regulations dealing with establishing of sanitary protection zones of production wells were passed in 2002, it was necessary to carry out novelation of existing protection zones according to new rules. Existed data did not make possible representation of groundwater flow with mathematical model, which is the best way for protection zone delineation in aquifers composed of rocks with intergranular porosity, primarily because adequate monitoring of production quantities and piezometric levels on catchment area had not been yet established. In those circumstances, it was decided as necessary to perform further hydrogeological research in order to propose protection zones. The results of performed research provided basis for reducing the area under third protection zone in comparison to, at that moment valid, sanitary protection zones regulation, and on the other hand the second protection zone was completely removed as the result of estimated groundwater travel time to the production wells. The results of performed research, as well as resulting sanitary protection zones, have been processed and presented with the aid of GIS technology
