Assessment of DNA damage in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from cancer patients receiving radiotherapy and from healthy donors using Fast Micromethod
Here we report the initial results of a study of DNA damage, after gama-irradiation, in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from tumor patients undergoing radiotherapy and from healthy donors of different age groups, using a novel method (Fast Micromethod) for determination of DNA single.strand breaks. Blood samples were taken just before and immediately after irradiation (patients) or were irradiated ex vivo (normals). It was found that PBMC isolated from blood of patients receiving radiotherapy without chemotherapy showed considerable individual differences in DNA status, already prior to irradiation.
