The effect of unilateral ureteral obstruction and anti-angiotensin II treatment on renal tubule and interstitial cell apoptosis in rats
Obstructive uropathy with resultant hydronephrosis and impaired renal function is the eventual outcome of most urologic diseases. In thjis study we examined the apoptosis of the tubular and interstitial cells of the kidney in rats with unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO). Caspases are cytoslic enzymes that belong to 14-member family and serve as effector molecules for apoptosis. We explored the effect of the administration of an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACEE) infibitor-cilazapril and angiotensin II (Ang II) type I receptor antagonist-losartan on these histological changes.
