Disturbance of Cell Proliferation in Response to Mobile Phone Frequency Radiation
The aim of study was to determine influence of mobile phone frequency radiation on proliferation ratio, cytoskeleton structure and mitotic index (MI) in cells after 1, 2 and 3 hours of exposure. V79 cell culture was cultivated in a standard laboratory conditions. Cells were exposed to the continuous wave (cw) RF/Mw radiation 935 MHz, electric field strength of 8.2± 0.3 V/m, and specific absorption rate (SAR) of 0.12 W/kg. To identify cell proliferation kinetics, for each hour of exposure the cells were counted after 24, 48, 72 and 96 post-exposure hours. The microtubule proteins were determined by specific immunocytochemical methods. The cell smears were analyzed under the fluorescence microscopy. Negative- and positive controls were included into the study. MI was determined by number of dividing cells twenty four hours after exposure. In comparison to the controls, the cell proliferation decrease was noticed in cells exposed for 3 hours, but 72 hours after irradiation (p<0.05). Microtubule structure was clearly altered immediately after 3 hours of irradiation (p<0.05). MI in RF/Mw exposed cells did not differed from MI of negative controls. Without influencing number of dividing cells, retardation of cell division kinetics could be a consequence of microtubule impairment immediately after exposure
