Redefining the Qualification Process from the IT Perspective
One of the most stressful events in an academic year, besides the exams, is conducting the qualification process for prospective students. It is as stressful for the applicants as it is for the people involved in conducting the whole process. The main stress source is the suspense caused by the time needed to process all the data. While trying to publish the results (rankings) of the process as soon as possible (in order to shorten the suspense time), we have developed a set of IT supported procedures. Those procedures enable us to have the first results out (for an average of 1400 applicants) in a 12-hour time span. In this paper we will present those procedures and propose a model which will cut the time needed to process the data (for approximately the same number of applicants) to 1/3 of the time needed now.
