Alzheimer Disease Societies Croatia - Our plans for near future

After nine years of struggling for an adequate place for our office, the Alzheimer Disease Societies Croatia (ADSC) has got, from the Government of Zagreb, the nice place in the centre of the town, only 5 minutes walk from the main square. We are very happy with this location, but due to fact that this office (in Vlaška 24a) was for many years out of function, we really need to renovate the whole place. So, we are going to ask for money from the Government, but also from all other possible sponsors, including the pharmaceutical industry. We also need to by furniture and all technical equipment for our office. We will try to raise the money with applying to some projects and with some humanitarian events and donations. Our main idea for the years to come is to try to improve rights of persons with dementia (PWD). One of our priorities is to fight for the right of the PWD to have antidementia drugs on reimbursement list. At the moment, in Croatia, all PWD need to buy those drugs. Another problem we wish to solve is that PWD in Croatia have no status of handicapped people or people with special needs. Third major issue is that there are no Nursing homes for PWD in Croatia, and this is also a great problem, so the ADSC is going to lobby for a change. The only way to solve mentioned problems is the change of the law. We suggested an amendment for a possibility that every Old people home in Croatia must admit a small percentage (10% of capacities) of PWD. When we put our new office in Vlaška 24a in order, our Counseling centre will work more frequently, and more educative public lectures will be given.
