Geochemical background values of selected chemical parameters in groundwater of Zagreb aquifer system
The model-based objective method, the iterative 2-sigma technique, was used to evaluate and separate anomalies or outliers from the background concentrations of naturally occurring inorganic parameters in groundwater of Zagreb aquifer system. Geochemical background calculations have been conducted for: dissolved oxygen, sulphate, chloride, iron and manganese, because they are indicators of human impacts from agriculture and industry. Outliers below the lower threshold limit of normal background fluctuation for dissolved oxygen are the indicators of extreme oxygen consumption in an aquifer system. All values above a higher threshold limit of the normal background fluctuation for: chloride, sulphate, iron and manganese, belongs to a contaminant population.
