Building a river dam to increase groundwater levels

The paper deals with an impact of a river dam near the TE-TO Zagreb Cogeneration Plant, Croatia on the groundwater levels of the Zagreb alluvial aquifer. Identification of the impact area has been done through analysis of groundwater level time series measured in observation wells from 1970 to 2006. In addition to the identification of the impact area, the river dam impact on the groundwater levels was quantified. The river dam impact on the groundwater level rise was calculated from a difference between average values of groundwater levels in the year 2006 and predicted values of groundwater levels determined using trend analysis of groundwater level time series, which would have been registered in the absence of the river dam.
