Influence of the inlet channel geometry on the diesel engine characteristics
Inlet channel in cylinder head, beside of the inlet of fresh air to the cylinder, is intended to generate swirl motion to improve the mixing of the fresh air with evaporating fuel. Testing of the influence of inlet channel with various geometries was performed using more various cylinder heads on the air cooled direct injection diesel engine. From the test results is evident that higher engine fueling and increase in nozzle hole number demands lower swirl ratios then usualy used in the turbocharged engines.
