Training induced oxidative damage in professional soccer players

We studied the effect of training exercise of professional soccer players (a simulated soccer match) on the levels of DNA damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes, especially 7, 8-dihydro-8-oxo-2&#8217; -deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG), using the modified alkaline comet assay before and after the training. After the match, the values of tail length and tail intensity were significantly increased (p<0.05 for both indicators), indicating substantial DNA damage due to the exercise induced oxidative stress
