The Change in Shade Influenced by Fluorescent Compounds in the Laundry Bath
One of the undesirable appearances during laundering of pastel dyed fabrics is change in shade influenced by fluorescent whitening agents (FWA) in the detergent formulation. It is intensified by repeat cycles due to cumulative effect. This investigation is focused on the implementation of different fluorescent compounds in the ECE detergent during multiple laundering cycles. Pastel dyed cotton and polycotton summer fabrics were laundered with addition of FWA and UV absorbing compound (UVA). It was investigated the influence of the deposit of these fluorescent compounds on the specific appearance changes of blue and yellow dyed cotton and polycotton fabrics. The results were assessed by spectral values and relative fluorescence intensity. UVA as well as FWA incorporated in detergent change shade of pastel dyed fabrics and intensity of these changes depend on the coloration. Small differences in the shade change between FWA and UV absorber performances are noticeable only during the first cycles.
