Croatian Nomenclature in Modern Separation Techniques
In order to be accepted at all professional and federal levels, Croatian nomenclature in analytical chemistry first has to be defined and standardized. This is the main goal of the research project "Croatian nomenclature in Analytical Chemistry". The other important aim is to connect the analytical chemists with linguists in their joint effort to enrich the Croatian scientific vocabulary. For that purpose available archival material, as well as other published and unpublished sources are being studied. IUPAC Compendium of Analytical Nomenclature and other European documents related to analytical chemistry are being translated. Continuing development of modern separation techniques results in numerous new English terms, which have to be translated and included in the corpus of Croatian language. On the example of solid-phase extraction, one of the most frequent analytical separation techniques in the chromatographic sample preparation, we will present some examples of translation and adaptation of English terms into the Croatian language standard.
