Estimation of Tropospheric Delay Models Compliance
Tropospheric delay can be a significant source of error for satellite-based positioning systems, if it is not properly estimated. Two basic types of delay prediction models exist. The first use surface meteorological parameters to estimate the magnitude of the tropospheric delay, and the other global models use average and seasonal variation data. To verify the accuracy of tropospheric delay models, we compared representatives of both types within a period of 12 month, comprising all seasons. The Saastamoinen model known as one of the best performing prediction model was taken as a reference, and the global WAAS/EGNOS model was used to check how the estimates of the yearly averages of the meteorological parameters and their associated seasonal variations comply with the real-time surface parameters.
