Pancreaticoduodenal artery flow during evolution of chronic pancreatitis
Factors detrmining evolution of CP are not still clear. Pain as main symptom often ceases after 5 years of disease. It was postulated that the pancreas was burned out in these pts. We investigated the connection of the disease duration with changes in pancreaticoduodenal artery (PDA) blood flow. Method: Pulsating and coloured Doppler measurement of upper PDA in pts with different stages of CP. Resistance index (RI) and pulsatile index (PI) were determined and values compared according to duration of disease. Results: Disease 1-5 yrs 5-8 yrs 8+ yrs Control duration RI median 0.77 0.78 0.74 0.71 PI median 1.78 1.79 1.79 1.46 Conclusion: In patients with different stages of CP slightly higher values of PDFA RI and PI were observed compared to controls. There were no changes of RI and PI according to duration of disease. Evolution of CP seems not to be correlated with changes in PDA blood flow.
