Sažetak
The calix[4]pyrroles are known for more than a century. They show interesting anion and neutral substrate binding properties. However, there is still not much known about calixphyrines, structural intermediates between porphyrines and calixpyrroles. This structural attribute could lead to anion and cation recognition property. In the context of our synthetic efforts to incorporate the polycyclic unit, such as adamantane, into macrocyclic compounds for the enhancement of the selective recognition of different guest molecules, we turned our attention to adamantane-dipyrromethanes (1) and their potential as anion binding agens. Our findings that these derivatives bind anions, and reports in the literature on the condensation of pyrrole and cyclohexanone (2) prompted us to incorporate adamantane-dipyrromethane building blocks into calix[4]pyrroles (I) and calixphyrins (II) and investigate their structural characteristics by X-ray single crystal and powder crystallography.
