Microstructure and mechanical properties of steel castings
Prediction of relationship of mechanical properties and structure is one of the most challenges in the modelling of cast alloy processes. Basically the strength of materials is the result of their structure, on sub-micro, micro, and macro scale. In this paper the relationship between mechanical properties and structure characteristics of steel castings was investigated. The effects of grain size, dendrite arm spacing, bifilms, compact and planar defects on some basic mechanical properties such as yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, ductility, and fracture toughness was analysed. The relations between the mechanical properties of steel casting and microstructure constitution were established.
