Photoelectrochemical (PEC) study of the CdS/FeCl3-FeCl2/Pt and CdS/NaOCl-Cl2/Pt systems

In this study we have investigated the conversion properties of PEC systems with chemicaly deposited polycrystalline CdS electrodes and different redox electrolytes (FeCl3/FeCl2 and NaOCl/Cl2). The efficiency and fill factor, estimated from power characteristics, are 0, 1 % and 0, 25 % respectively, for PEC with converter with NaOCl/Cl2 redox electrolyte, these values being 0, 1 % and 0, 25 % for PEC with FeCl3/FeCl2. For both systems the dependences of the short circuit current j_sc on illumination intensity I and the open circuit voltage U_oc on ln I are linear, in agreement with theory. U_oc is determined by the difference of the electrode Fermi level E_F, sc and the redox electrolyte Fermi level E_F, red: deeper the E_F, red greater the U_oc.
