Mobile Web Navigator in the Function of Providing Guests with Information on Tourist Offer

Following world trends, the domestic tourist offer has been continually developing and broadening the range of products and services it is capable of offering to guests at any given time. A broad offer in itself is however not enough to ensure that the guest will take advantage of this abundance. Transparency of both hospitality services and cultural attractions represents one of the key success factors of Croatian tourism. Under contemporary circumstances marked by considerable growth of the amount of information on the side of supply and an increasing number of guests, classical advertising via conventional media has shown its deficiencies. In order to make the overall tourist product transparent, especially to a foreign tourist who is unable to use most classical media because of the language barrier, it is necessary to exploit the potential of new media and modern communication technology. Desktop computers and promotion via the Web definitely play an important role in the sale of holiday packages and preparation of guests for their arrival. However, once guests arrive they should have at their disposal an information system of equal or if not better quality to provide them with information on extra services and events that could directly or indirectly make their stay more interesting and eventful. A contented guest is likely to come back and it is therefore advisable to take care of the guests' habits and suggest services that that will provide for a pleasant and interesting stay in the Republic of Croatia. In addition to the requirements related to the applied technology, it is also necessary to solve the issue of integration of different marketing concepts which go beyond simple, one-way communication characteristic of classical media. Modern digital mobile phones with inbuilt systems for simple Web content browsing seem to be the right technological solution to this problem. Each modern mobile phone supports this type of communication ; however, the device itself and the corresponding browsing program are just a part of the solution. It is therefore necessary to design an ergonomic, attractive, multilingual and user-friendly system to become a mobile Web navigator in the abundance Croatian tourist offer.
