Concrete of improved fire resistance
The paper refers to the possibility of improving the concrete fire resistance by application of “ fire resistant” materials as aggregates. The basic idea is that materials developed on high temperatures (slag, diabase, vermiculite, perlite, expanded clay, crushed brick/tile) used as aggregate in concrete mixture, make the concrete more resistant to high temperatures. The paper gives the overview of properties of the mentioned aggregates, and refers to the advantages and disadvantages of the application in concrete. In the experimental part there have been given the preliminary results of tests on the concrete made with some of the mentioned aggregates (diabase, slag) when exposed to high temperatures.
