Croatian National Energy Programs, Croatian SHP Agreement, Croatian SHP Program : MAHE

Realization of the energy policy of the Republic of Croatia is planned through a certain number of national energy sector development programs whose goals are, among others to come to the most efficient consumption management and phased increase in use of renewable energy sources. These programs comprise a number of legal, economic and promotional measures that could be pursued by government, counties and cities, and other legal and natural persons concerned. Program MAHE aims to provide all conditions for a greater number of small plants construction. Through this program realization it is necessary to eliminate all barriers and set all incentive measures and modes of future investors assistance, as well as information system and program promotion. Formally, there are no barriers for small hydro power plants construction, but the reality gives a range of obstacles that could discourage prospective investors. By the Register of small hydro power plants, available energy potential of small hydro power plants in Croatia has been defined and these appraisals show that Croatia has more than 100 MW of unused hydro-potential in terms of small power plants. Besides provided buyout, for prospective future investors it is necessary to provide simple legal regulatory processes for getting location licenses.
