ULTRASPHERICAL LOW-PASS FILTERING IN AUDIO PROCESSING AND MIXING
Low pass filtering finds its application in diverse fields of acoustic signal processing such as recording and mixing, time delay spectrometry and Doppler velocitometry. The purpose of this paper is to discuss application of second-order ultraspherical filters in audio signal processing and mixing. It can be shown that a filter with the response between Chebyshev and Butterworth filters can be applied in audio applications. In this way, a compromise can be made between Butterworth’ s smooth magnitude response in the pass-band and Chebyshev’ s sharp cut-off in transition band.
