Distinction among various management control systems and their role in managing performance
Evidence shows that projects are constantly disappointing their stakeholders. The main reason is poor performance - inadequate performance management system. Performance management should be a vital part of every modern, project oriented company and should be based on efficient and effective management control system. This paper examines and defines distinction among different types of control systems (diagnostic, interactive and strategic) and explains their role in organizational processes. It is crucial to select appropriate system in order to manage performance, align key performance indicators (KPI) with environment and stimulate benchmarking. The survey, taken among Croatian construction professionals shows that: 71% of respondents found KPI as a useful tool in managing performance, 63% are using them for benchmarking performance purposes whence only 33% are actually aware of their part in a holistic performance management system.
