Seroepidemiology of Human Leptospirosis in Croatia: Possible Important Role of Serovars sejroe and saxkoebing
The total number of human acute leptospirosis infections in Croatia was 1311 in 20-year period (1981-2000), ranging from 22 to 144 annually. The frequency of presumptive infecting serovars showed small changes, but serogrup sejroe is still main cause of leptospirosis in humans. A decreasing of pomona, and on the other hand, increasing of australis infection were detected. This investigation confirms the north parts of Croatia represent the vast "archaic" natural leptospirosis foci with specific differences from another parts of Europe.
