Military injuries of extremities
The particularity of war wounds is a severe clinical course of long lasting treatment and greater mortality. Early surgical treatments and prophylactic use of antibiotics considerably decreases the infection rate of war wounds. For quick fracture stabilisation the use of external fixation can be recommended warmly. This reduces complications such as infections to injuries or soft tissue blood vessels and nerves. Large percentages of bone fractures and amputations in our patients resulted from local charaacteristics of combat areas and delayed tranfers to our hospital. Our satisfactory results are evidence that in each stage of treatment therapy with maximum dedication was used adequately.
